Participatory Workshop at Ramtha Agricultural Research Center

Within the framework of exchanged activities of 'using the agricultural diversity project and mixed breeding program', a workshop with the participation of a number of farmers in the northern regions of Maru, Ramtha, Al Khanasry and Al Horsh was held at Ramtha Agricultural Research Center.

In the opening, Eng Ibrahim Al Bashabsheh, on behalf of the Director General, said that the farmers are a main asset in the agricultural process, through involving them with researchers in the process of selecting inputs and varieties of wheat and barley to be planted the next season, and evaluating the results of scientific research outputs of cultivated varities at NARC's stations, to come up with recommendations that will improve the agricultural sector and achieve sustainable development.

Dr. Nawal Al Hajjaj, the project coordinator, elaborated that this workshop is important, for it is a mean to inform farmers about scientific research outputs to help them select the varieties that suit the Jordanian environment to produce products with good specifications, high productivity and added value.

Farmer Abdul Qader Afifi conveyed his appreciation to the role played by NARC to involve the farmer in the development of varieties and agricultural science research transfer to raise the level of farm management and raise productivity per unit area.

During the workshop, discussion groups were conducted by a number of NARC researchers namely, Eng. Yahya Bani Khalaf, Eng. Jihan Nseir, and Eng. Amal Al Khatib.
